Identity Verification (KYC) Disclosure & Consent

Certain actions on OwnVouch — in particular, completing an ownership transfer — require identity verification ("KYC," know-your-customer). This page explains what that involves before you're asked to consent to it in the app.

What we ask you to provide

Depending on the verification method in use, this may include:

• A photo of a government-issued ID (e.g. passport, driver's licence, national ID card)
• A selfie or short liveness check to confirm the ID belongs to you
• Your legal name, date of birth, and the document's ID number
• The verification result (pass/fail/needs review) — we retain the result, not necessarily the underlying images, longer than strictly necessary; see below

Who processes it

Verification is performed by KYC vendor name, a third-party identity-verification provider, acting on our behalf under a data processing agreement. They process the data you submit to perform the check and return a result to OwnVouch; we do not see your raw document images unless the vendor makes them available to us for a specific fraud or dispute investigation.

Why we ask for it

To confirm that the person completing a transfer is a real, uniquely identifiable individual, to reduce fraud and stolen-device laundering, and — where applicable — to meet legal identity-verification obligations.

Biometric data

If the verification method includes a liveness check or facial comparison, this involves processing a biometric identifier. Where your jurisdiction requires specific consent or disclosure for biometric data (for example, Illinois' BIPA or the EU/UK GDPR's rules on special-category data), your affirmative consent in the app before starting verification serves as that consent, and you may withdraw it by declining to complete verification — though this will prevent you from completing the transfer that required it.

Retention

See the Retention section of our Privacy Policy. In short: verification results are kept for KYC retention period; raw documents/images, where retained at all, are retained only as long as the vendor's processing agreement with us requires and are then deleted.

Your choice

Providing this information is optional in the sense that you are never required to use OwnVouch — but it is required to complete a verified transfer. If you do not consent, you can still use non-transfer features of the Service where identity verification isn't required.
